The FED-AMR project is investigating the role of extracellular DNA in the flow of AMR genes across ecosystem barriers. As part of the FED-AMR project, we are studying the relationships between AMR gene abundance and diversity and wild deer interactions with humans.

We are studying how forest fires impact the soil microbiome along soil radioactive contamination and soil quality gradients in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. This work is a collaboration with Profs. Nick Beresford (CEH, UK), Mike Wood (U. of Salford, UK) and Sergey Gaschak (Chornobyl Centre) and was partially funded by the British Ecological Society. Our lab was also awarded an ERASMUS+ mobility grant with colleagues in Ukraine (Dr Olena Pareniuk) to develop training around soil metagenomics, soil ecology, radioecology and radiobiology.
